Yuvazhep: Kundalika water rafting on 4th March 2012

Yuvazhep: Kundalika water rafting on 4th March 2012

The sun is beating down upon us. The heat is inhumane. This is one of the effects of Climate Change. You switch on the A/C to beat the heat thus adding to the woes of Mother Nature. We simply take respite in the cool waters of a gushing river.Adrenaline and tranquility are two things that only adventurous folks use in the same sentence. The peace of mind that accompanies thethrill can be experienced only at a few places. White Water Rafting is one such activity.

Join us as we battle 12 rapids of varying degrees on the 14 km stretch of the Kundalika River. As the damn opens its door and floods the otherwise calm Kundalika, we mount on our rafts and ride the waves in our orange rafts! Towards the last stretch, we will float around in the wide river and watch clouds and time drift by.

Yuvazhep's trek to Peb on 8th Jan 2012

Hi Yuva,

Type : Hill Fort
Height : 2100 Feet
Grade : Medium
District : Raigad
Region : Karjat
Base Village : Neral

Peb Fort (also known as Vikatgad) :

Peb fort is located in matheran mountain range. It is ideal for one day trek. The fort derives it name from the Goddess 'Pebi'; Peb is also called 'Vikatgad' for its supposed shape of the Elephant Headed God, 'Ganesh'. Historical reference state that this fort was used by Shivaji Maharaj as a silos for grain storage.

The fort houses caves which are maintained by disciples of Swami Samartha and the meditation chambers carved out from the rock inside the mountain. To get inside the meditation chamber, one has to crawl through a narrow passage in the rock and then climb down into the meditation chamber. The chamber is very well maintained with tiles on the floor for people to sit and meditate. On the top of the fort is a small temple of Shri Swami Samarths in which one can worship his 'padukas,

The trek to the top involves climbing a small rock patch and a ladder
The view of the entire Neral and Karjat region from the top is worth the climb. Another attraction of the trek is the only standing Buruj facing the Panorama point of Matheran, the view from here is just too beautiful to describe.
